Although both babies are developing inside the same uterus, each baby has an individual heart, circulatory system, pattern of movement and level of activity. Their heart rates can therefore differ when measured during an ultrasound.
For example:
- Twin 1 may have a heart rate of 140 beats per minute.
- Twin 2 may have a heart rate of 160 beats per minute.
